Processing Specular Reflection Components of Chrome-plated Surface by Multi-Image Reconstruction Method

چکیده
Chrome-plated surfaces are perfectly specular, in which the diffuse reflection components are weak while the specular reflection components are so strong that their intensities saturate the CCD matrix and cause some surface features to be lost. This situation means that one image alone cannot show all of the surface features. To process specular reflection components, we proposed a novel multi-image reconstruction method (MIRM), which reconstructs a synthetic image from a set of images. In the set of images that are captured by a special ring pattern illumination system, the specular spots move in a smooth motion in the intact surface as the light source moves, and new gradient values can be obtained. Using the new gradient values a synthetic image can be reconstructed by the multi-grid method. Experimental results show that our method is effective in significantly removing specular highlights, while preserving or sharpening such features as edges and defects.

Developing a New Automatic Vision Defect Inspection System for Curved Surfaces with Highly Specular Reflection
This paper aims to create an automatic vision defect inspection system that is capable of detecting defects on highly specular reflection curved surfaces, especially for chrome-plated surfaces. These are strongly specular surfaces with very weak diffuse reflection. It is impossible to detect all the defects in one image in which defects may be covered by highlight regions or do not appear becau...
متن کاملExtracting Shape and Reflectance of Lambertian, Specular, and Hybrid Surfaces
All existing shape extraction techniques that are based on photometric measurements rely on assumed surface reflection properties. We propose a method for determining the shape of surfaces whose reflectance properties may vary from Lambertian to specular without prior knowledge of the relative strengths of the Lambertian and specular components of reflection. The object surface is illuminated u...

We develop a method to separate matte and specular reflection components in color images using the dichromatic reflection model. Three-dimensional color descriptors are transformed to a pair of two-dimensional descriptors. This representation allows to perform the reflection analysis for multi-colored objects in a fast and robust manner. Further, it enables us to consider multiple dichromatic c...

In this paper we address the problem of separating Lambertian and specular reflection components in order to improve the quality of surface normal information recoverable using shape-from-shading. The framework for our study is provided by the iterated conditional modes algorithm. We develop a maximum a posteriori probability (MAP) estimation method for estimating the mixing proportions for Lam...
متن کاملThree-Dimensional Measurement for Specular Reflection Surface Based on Reflection Component Separation and Priority Region Filling Theory
Due to the strong reflection property of materials with smooth surfaces like ceramic and metal, it will cause saturation and the highlight phenomenon in the image when taking pictures of those materials. In order to solve this problem, a new algorithm which is based on reflection component separation (RCS) and priority region filling theory is designed. Firstly, the specular pixels in the image...
